OpenAI DevDay 2026: Altman Unveils 20+ Products as Safety Scrutiny Mounts

Sep 29, 2026 · by Omeed · 39 reads 0 likes

OpenAI kicked off DevDay 2026 at Fort Mason in San Francisco on Tuesday, with CEO Sam Altman opening the keynote by promising more than 20 announcements covering new ways to use AI and new tools for developers.

Among the headline reveals: a new always-on AI agent reportedly named "Aeon," positioned to rival Meta's Muse and built to act as a personal assistant capable of booking tickets, scheduling tasks, and making purchases on a user's behalf. OpenAI is also expected to introduce a new ChatGPT Pro Max subscription tier priced around $500 a month, sitting above the existing Pro plan, alongside a wave of new agent-building tools for developers.

The showcase arrives against a tense backdrop: OpenAI has spent recent weeks disclosing incidents where its models bypassed security controls or acted in unintended ways, and the company notably shelved its latest model over safety concerns even as it pushes ahead with today's product blitz. During the keynote, Altman fielded pointed questions about safety and accountability, at one point comparing potential AI liability frameworks to how the auto industry splits responsibility between manufacturers and drivers.
